My Rent the Runway Experience

Rent the Runway generously gave me store credit to try out their service for myself. About two weeks ago, I went to their website to pick a dress for New Year’s Eve. I found their website to be very user-friendly with lots of categories to narrow my search like length of dress, body type and price. I really like that they have reviews and photos from real women who have rented each item since I’m not a size 2, tall, eat-a-burger-for-the-love model. Those reviews helped me cross a few dresses off my list for sure.

Finally I found my favorite dress that I thought would look good on my 5’3, size 10-12 hourglass body. A super-cool feature is that you can order a backup size of the same dress for FREE! Well, my backup size wasn’t available, so they offered to let me rent a second style in two sizes for a discounted price. Sold. I also decided to take a gamble and order the “mystery bling” for $15.

My box with three dresses and earrings arrived late Wednesday evening. I opened the boxes to find three DIFFERENT dresses, not the two styles that I expected. I wasn’t crazy about the replacement dress that they sent me. It looked too matronly on the hanger. (See #3.)IMG_3213Dress #1 was a nice, thick stretchy fabric, but it was a bit short for my tastes and a little snug through the butt area. IMG_3245Dress #2, my favorite, came only in a size 10. This is the one I was expecting to come in a 10 and a 12. I could have zipped it if I didn’t care to breath all night. It was so beautiful with a deep V-neck that showed off the girls nicely. But again, the breathing thing, so…IMG_3253Dress #3, the one I did NOT pick out, fit me perfectly. It looked much better on me than the hanger. Boobs and hips will do that. On the third try-on, I realized that it was a NAVY dress, not black like the others. This required a different shoe option. Panic set in for a moment since I was pretty sure I didn’t have navy dress shoes. But alas, I found a pair of pretty navy ballet flats that did the trick. IMG_3274My mystery bling were these fun ear jackets. IMG_3214I really enjoyed doing my makeup up all sparkley for my night out with my husband. IMG_3269

Anthony looked so handsome all dressed up. IMG_3275WIMG_3278e had a lovely dinner at Good Food by Ferneau. I had the Korean pear salad, then the Surf n’ Turf. OMG — amazing. I didn’t even get a photo of the chocolate pots la creme. It was probably the best dessert I had all last year. I want another one RIGHT NOW. IMG_3279  IMG_3283

Today, I packed up my three dresses and the earrings in the pre-addressed return envelopes that were provided. Tomorrow I just have to pop them in the mail. So easy. I’d definitely use Rent the Runway again — maybe something red and shiny for Valentine’s Day. IMG_3301

Rent the Runway contender for Inc. Company of the Year

Rent the Runway

I am in awe of women entrepreneurs, nurse and the two ladies who started Rent the Runway are incredible. I love their story that is featured in Inc. today, illness and I’m totally stoked that Rent the Runway is launching its new subscription service in 2016.

I really like dressing up all glitzy, but rarely get the opportunity anymore. You’re more likely to see me in jeans and a sweatshirt with snot somewhere around the shoulder. Being a mom of four kiddos can do that to one’s sense of style. But sometimes I just need to dress up and be a WOMAN, not a mom.

I’m completely enamored with the holiday collection that Badgley Mischka has created for Rent the Runway.  I want to go out for New Year’s Eve with my husband and pretend we are James Bond and whoever the latest Bond Girl is, drinking fancy drinks and dancing the night away. Of course, I’ll need to take a nap first, so I can make it til midnight and kiss my man under the twinkle of dancefloor lights.
