We woke up on our last day in Nicaragua, packed our backpacks and had a driver take us from the beaches of San Juan del Sur to the big city of Managua. Along the way, we soaked in the beautiful landscape including several volcanoes.
Once in Managua, our driver dropped us off at the Galleria mall to meet up with some missionary friends from Arkansas, Brenton and Deborah Witonski and their four kids. We had lunch and then they showed us around Managua.
Managua has this really cool park along the lake that has mini-versions of all the beautiful churches across the country, as well as an awesome playground. We didn’t let a little rain stop us from checking it all out.
After the park, we went to JC and Karen’s house (friends of the Witonskis) for dinner and then all out for ice cream.
After ice cream, we made our way to the airport for our 1 a.m. flight. The flight to Houston was short and uneventful. We barely made it through customs in Houston, and ran like mad people to catch our flight to Dallas, but we made it just in time. Panting. Once we landed in Dallas, we made a pit stop at Trader Joe’s and then In & Out Burger before driving home. It was a trip that I’ll never forget — and hopefully we’ll go again next summer!
